Course Description
This course explores the literary, historical, and theological dimensions of Luke’s second volume: The Acts of the Apostles. The study provides a forum for reading Luke’s account of the
emergence of the nascent Christ-believing community within its Jewish and Greco-Roman context. The study will also consider how the book of Acts informs the beliefs and practices of the
contemporary church.
Course Objectives
- Study the Acts of the Apostles as a narrative of the unfolding of Jesus’ Great Commission
- Examine Luke’s underlying purpose/s, structure, and recurring theological themes
- Critically assess how the opposition to the Gospel and persecution of believers normally follows ministry,
- Develop appropriate methods or models for evangelism and local church mission within hostile societies
