Course Description
An expository study of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus, with emphasis on interpretive problems, the theological and practical relevance of the Pastorals for society and the church, and church leadership. The student must be aware of the key theological contributions of the Pastorals as well as the debates surrounding their background and authorship.
Course Objectives
- Understand the special introductory problems of the Pastoral Epistles, particularly Pauline authorship.
- Appreciate the special relevance of the Pastoral Epistles for Christian faith and conduct, especially in church life.
- Identify ways of applying the lessons of the Pastoral Epistles to the contemporary Christian life, both corporately and individually.
- Defend the Pauline authorship of the Pastorals, and place each epistle in its New Testament framework historically and geographically.
