About Course
This course begins with a brief study of the history of the Bible, as well as reasons for trusting in its reliability. Various modes of analyzing and interpreting the literary and historical context will be addressed, thereby reading, viewing, and studying the Bible through two essential lenses simultaneously: WORD & WORLD.
You will learn what the following five steps of the Interpretive Journey are and how to employ them as you attempt to interpret the Bible:
Step 1: Grasp the text in their town. What did the text mean to the biblical audience?
Step 2: Measure the width of the river to cross. What are the differences between the biblical audience and us?
Step 3: Cross the principlizing bridge. What is the theological principle(s) in this text?
Step 4: Consult the biblical map. How does our theological principle fit within the rest of the Bible?
Step 5: Grasp the text in our town. How should individual Christians today live out
the theological principle(s)?
