Introduction to Academic, Research and Writing

The course emphasizes a working knowledge of research tools and research methodology, discusses selective problems in theological research, and addresses the scholarly process and modern information systems. Particular emphasis is placed on the theological bibliography and critical methods of reading, studying, and writing. The course also examines the basic form, content, and style of an acceptable theological research paper.
Upon completion of the course, students will become skilled in:

1. finding and evaluating sources, including internet resources
2. analysis and argumentation
3. constructing and answering good research questions
4. building bibliographies
5. using the library
6. critical reading of texts, including putting sources in conversation with one another
7. formulation of good research projects, including focused subjects and theses
